Dreamforce takes over San Francisco every September, and most of what Salesforce runs that week happens away from the keynote hall: summits, dinners, community events and receptions in hotels around Moscone. On September 16, 2026, I photographed one of them, the Service to Salesforce Summit at the St. Regis San Francisco, an afternoon for the Dreamforce military fellowship community.
What a side event at Dreamforce needs from a photographer
A summit like this has three different jobs in one room. There is the stage: a panel in front of a branded screen, which has to be photographed clean enough for a recap post and a slide. There is the step-and-repeat, where a fellowship cohort wants the picture they will actually share. And there is everything in between, the handshakes and table conversations that tell someone who was not there what the afternoon felt like.
The room at the St. Regis was mixed light: window light from one side, warm practicals and stage wash from the other. That is typical for hotel event space during Dreamforce week, and it is why I shoot the candids wide open and close, with the brand colors in the background doing the work of telling you where you are.
The frames that get used
From an event like this, the comms team usually uses a handful of images: the panel wide, one or two speaker close-ups, the group at the backdrop, and a few reaction shots from the audience. The detail frames, like a Salesforce phone case sitting on the welcome card, are the ones that end up as the opening image of the recap.
